I got a call from a Nigerian sounding man this morning asking if I remembered entering a competition last year for a Chevy Spark! I didn’t really remember but thought to hear him out.

Turns out the “you have won guaranteed prizes” is a scam.

So watch out for free stuff, and meetings at Monateng Hotel.

Thank you to everyone placing your comments here, it seems we are doing a great job at warning our fellow South Africans.

One comment mentions that they are now called Prestige communications – so watch out for that.

I was approached in Thailand with a very similar offer, guaranteed prizes, attend presentation, age, wife required and all that. It is interesting to see it isn’t only here in South Africa.

With just over 4 weeks until my wedding, there is much to do. Blogging has been put at the back of that list.

I did figure out something interesting in SQL though. If you want to group a bunch of dates by day, but not by the second, but still want to return a datetime value just do this:

CONVERT(datetime,CONVERT(varchar, dateValue, 102))

As I was about to leave work on Friday afternoon, I got a nasty surprise!

Luckily for me, the facilities staff at Mustek were VERY helpful and assisted me by making a plate to reconnect the terminal, new nuts to attach it, and the tools to perform all this.
