National Heritage (braai) Day

I also celebrated my national braai day in true SA style. Got the chops, and wors, put it on the braai, had some wine, and after that chilled in the jacuzzi….

Hope you all had a good one too.

USA and European lotto

Every now and then I enter the USA or European lottery because the winnings are quite hectic. Although I haven’t won anything yet, it’s still much more fun to dream about 100 million Euro than 1 million Rand.

For 3 or 4 pounds per draw, it’s not too expensive and you can pay with credit card online. So easy.

How can I get to lie in my hammock, play online games… and drink my hunters dry all at the same time?

The WUG and JaWug

Searching for the WUG? What is the WUG? Read on…

I have noticed that my Google ranking for WUG search keywords is quite high, so why not give you some information that you need and be an asset to the WUG community that I am part of?

The WUG is a community of users connected over wifi (the same as a notebook, or desktop pc). The difference is that we use nice big antennae and connect over long ranges!

If you want to connect then check out this getting started guide: http://www.wug.za.net/gettingstarted.php

Don’t forget some core things you need to do by yourself!

  1. Add photos of your Line of Sight (LOS) to the gallery.
  2. Log onto the chat irc.jawug.za.net or on the website: http://www.wug.za.net/chat.php
  3. Don’t expect everyone to drop their work to help you, we all have full time jobs and nobody “works” for the WUG.
  4. You put up your own wug kit, mounting, drilling and connecting to a highsite. (buy kit here: http://scoopdistribution.co.za/ or http://www.dbg.co.za/)

If you follow these basic guides everyone will like you and you will have a fruitful wug experience :)

Internet at home again

This is Africa.

On 31st July I informed Telkom that I was moving house and that I needed the ADSL moved on the 28th.

After them confusing the data, and house number (it’s 40 not 4) I am finally back online at home.

It’s great.

Pigeon beats Telkom

“Cape Town – Winston, a homing pigeon, has made history by beating a Telkom ADSL line in delivering 4GB of data from Howick to Hillcrest, outside Durban in just 2 hours 6 minutes and 57 seconds, whereas the ADSL download was “still just under four percent complete” at 11:45.”

What a great story about how slow our internet really is :)

Back on the WUG

So I moved house… and have been ultra-busy at my new job.

Working a lot with services now, and fixing other peoples’ mess :)

Here are pictures of my temp wug setup.
