Urbanation is founded and led by a real estate professional with over 20 years’ experience across property development, finance, structuring and urban-scale projects in South Africa.
THE FOUNDER
Ricardo has spent over two decades working across the real estate value chain, with experience spanning development, investment structuring, advisory and long-term asset strategy.
His background combines financial discipline with urban and lifestyle insight, shaped by hands-on exposure to residential, mixed-use and precinct-scale projects within complex African urban environments.
- 20+ years’ experience in real estate development and investment
- MSc in Real Estate
- BCom Honours in Accounting
- Background in financial modelling, structuring and development feasibility
- Experience across land acquisition, development strategy, approvals and execution
- Strong understanding of develop-to-hold models and long-term income assets
- Experience across multi-million-rand developments
- Worked across complex stakeholder environments including municipalities, consultants, financiers and institutional counterparties
WHY URBANATION
After years inside conventional development models, a consistent gap became clear.
African cities were being built efficiently, but rarely meaningfully.
Too often, projects optimised for speed and yield at the expense of identity, culture and long-term human experience. Developments functioned but they didn’t belong.
Urbanation was created to address that gap.
Not as a single project or a one-off vision, but as a brand-led urban platform, integrating living, culture, media and long-term stewardship into one coherent system.
